yay! You have your beautiful new tattoo… now it’s down to you to look after it well and keep it looking awesome!

so, you have just left the studio all wrapped in cling film. Keep this on for the next 2-3 hours.

gently remove the film, wash with a mild, preferably fragrance free soap. Don’t rub hard, just lather up between your hands and gentle wash. Pat dry (don’t rub), paper towels or kitchen roll is perfect for this to prevent cross contamination.

then put on a thin layer of aftercare… this can be bepanthen, cocoa butter or a specific tattoo healing ointment such as yo-yo familia which we stock in store.

repeat the wash, dry and cream process 3 times per day (morning, afternoon and bedtime) for the next 2 weeks.

do not immerse in water, so avoid baths and swimming while it is healing. Showers are fine.

avoid strenuous exercise in the days following getting your tattoo, you don’t want it getting all sweaty.

bruising is normal, tenderness is normal, scabbing is normal. Don’t pick the scabs! It will also go through a peeling stage, don’t peel it!.

if your tattoo looks abnormally red, swells excessively, smells or weeps green gunk, please seek advice of the studio in the first instance. If we don’t get back to you straight away and you are concerned please seek medical advice.

reactions and infections can happen be it not following the aftercare properly, allergies, medical conditions and even just for no good reason at all. So if you are concerned at all just get in touch.

tattoos as they heal do get itchy, don’t itch. If it gets too much just wash and apply aftercare cream again.

keep out of direct sunlight while healing, and once healed please wear a high factor suncream, this will help against fading and keep the ink vibrant.

in about 4 weeks once all healed up, if the tattoo has faded too much or a bit of ink has not taken etc, just get in touch, touch ups are free. This is within reason…if you have picked at it, then the touch up cost is on you…. Likewise touch ups asked for an unreasonable time down the line will also be charged accordingly.
